Kim Newman就说过木乃伊是所有**怪物里最没有魅力的一个。所以木乃伊的最大卖点就是它的异域风，这点正好是汉默的强项，尤其是美工和摄影很出色。即使后来又拍了几部续集，这部原作仍然是最好的那部。

本以为本片翻拍自卡洛夫的版本，原来是Kharis系列，Kharis的工具人生涯又要开始了，看到他在彩色化后再次出没在树林间居然有种久别重逢感。故事主要取自第一部，但是也融合了后续作品里班宁父子、公主转世、沼泽**的情节，父亲失常的悬念、**的闪回和后段库欣和**人的试探都是新要素。彩色画面中精良的布景变得相当夺目，Kharis的造型却凸显粗糙，惊悚程度大打折扣甚至不如老版，不过高大的克里斯托弗·李无论是扮演神秘的祭司或是笨拙的木乃伊怪物都有得天独厚的优势，在覆盖全脸的**妆之下单靠眼神也有戏，从**老版延续至汉默翻拍版的面部特写手法仍然具有最骇人的力量
