当**接连拍摄了德古拉和科学怪人票房获得好评之后，福克斯也有点坐不住了，急于拍摄一部自己的超自然影片，于是蝉都就诞生了，公司甚至也请来了著名的“德古拉”贝拉.卢戈西来饰演大反派。或许魔术师蝉都的一些夸张表演在今天看来略有点可笑，但是片中的特效尤其是模型特效格外的叹为观止。赫伯特.芒丁扮演的一个小角色也特别的耍宝可爱，似乎这个角色影响了后面不少电影中的类似小人物。卢戈西更是格外的有腔调甚至比在德古拉里还要有型，身材格外纤细瘦长。
